This is a new topic for "What song are you listening to now?" because the old topic has stopped working. It gives an error for "(Embedding disabled, limit reached)" and at first I thought it was because to embedding tool we use, Aeva Media, was not working correctly but after upgrading to the latest version and doing some testing it appears that it may be a topic related issue.
So... here's a new topic for posting your songs. :2thumbs:
NOTE; you may need to be logged in to view any videos.
Enjoy!
-
Whoops!!!
Still messed up, I'm working on it. :hah:
-
Fixed it! :2thumbs:
This new version of Aeva Media has a setting for "Max Embedding Per Page" and it took me a while to find that. :opps:
Currently the settings are for 1 per post and 14 per page of posts... that should be enough, but it can be changed if someone wants more. :08:
Enjoy

The ageless voice of 21 year old Florence Welch is already legendary, but it's her passion and energy that light up the stage when performing to an adoring crowd at the Hordern. Opening with the emotive Cosmic Love and the slow-burning Between Two Lungs Florence + The Machine's act is a deliciously-gentle build until the energy begins to reach dizzying proportions with the crowd favorites Rabbit Heart and Dog Days are Over. It's here that Florence's inspired performance becomes so all-consuming (some might say 'possessed') her barefooted on-stage gyrations get the entire audience bouncing.

Over the past few days there seems to be an uptick in the numbers of impatient people asking for help on the support type forums that I read each day... some folks can't even wait for more than a few minutes for help (free help) on some minor issue, insisting that the world will surely end for them if the help (free help!!!) they demand if not forthcoming immediately if not sooner!!! :funny:

This 1950s video features composer, guitarist Vicente Gomez performing some of his Alegrias composition.
For those unfamiliar with Gomez, he was born in Madrid in 1911 and got an early start in music performing flamenco in his father's red light district tavern by the age of 8. Concert pianist Arthur Rubenstein eventually heard him play (presumably not while frequenting Madrid's red light district!) and encouraged him to pursue a professional career. He toured the world performing in the 1930s and became a U.S. citizen in the 1940s. He was drafted into the Army in 1943 and discharged in 1946, after which he opened a nightclub in New York, performing classical and flamenco music on his guitar nightly. During this period he also served as President of the New York Classical Guitar Society. In the 1950s he moved to Los Angeles and opened "The Academy of Spanish Arts" to teach classical and flamenco guitar, flamenco dancing, Spanish language, etc. He was also a frequent contributor to film music.
Vicente Gomez passed away in December 2001 at the age of 90, just two months after his wife passed away.

Great song from The Rolling Stones, it's the
sixth track from Rolling Stones' 1978 album Some Girls, ENJOY :)
Here are the lyrics:
I was driving home early sunday morning through bakersfield
Listening to gospel music on the colored radio station
And the preacher said, you know you always have the
Lord by your side
And I was so pleased to be informed of this that I ran
Twenty red lights in his honor
Thank you jesus, thank you lord
I had an arrangement to meet a girl, and I was kind of late
And I thought by the time I got there shed be off
Shed be off with the nearest truck driver she could find
Much to my surprise, there she was sittin in the corner
A little bleary, worse for wear and tear
Was a girl with far away eyes
So if youre down on your luck
And you cant harmonize
Find a girl with far away
And if youre downright disgusted
And life aint worth a dime
Get a girl with far away eyes
Well the preacher kept right on saying that all I had to do was send
Ten dollars to the church of the sacred bleeding heart of jesus
Located somewhere in los angeles, california
And next week theyd say my prayer on the radio
And all my dreams would come true
So I did, the next week, I got a prayer with a girl
Well, you know what kind of eyes she got
So if youre down on your luck
I know you all sympathize
Find a girl with far away eyes
And if youre downright disgusted
And life aint worth a dime
Get a girl with far away eyes

Shine on your crazy diamond
Remember when you were young,
You shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there's a look in your eyes,
Like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught on the crossfire
Of childhood and stardom,
Blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter,
Come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!
You reached for the secret too soon,
You cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night,
And exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome
With random precision,
Rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions,
Come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!

My interest in the true roots of Rock and Roll have lead me to many interesting people and often you can see a very clear influence on the musicians and bands of the 50's, 60's and seventies and beyond.
The influence that generally comes to mind is one of the 'white' performers like Elvis, the Stones, Beetles and others, but we should not forget the stars like James Brown, Chuck Berry, Little Richard and many others who also felt the guiding hand of singers and musicians from as far back as the early 1900's or even earlier.
I think the one thing that is most important in making the 40's and 50's such a hotbed for the advent of 'Rock and Roll' was the development of our communication technologies like radio, TV and most important of all, the records that people were able to produce and make available to the public. It all just seemed to come together in the early to mid 50's and those of us who were lucky enough to be there when it was happening are still amazed at what an exciting time it was for the music that we were exposed to during those years.
Here's a lady that I re-discovered today and if you watch this series of videos on her life and musical journey you'll see an direct link to many of the singers and bands that have been around for the past 50-60 years.
Enjoy!

Found this review of Jimmy Ruffin's impact and his passing posted to one of my woodworking forums... it is very well said.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
The passing of a true icon: RIP Jimmy Ruffin (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?224057-The-passing-of-a-true-icon-RIP-Jimmy-Ruffin)
...by Kent A Bathurst
While primarily known for just one song, that one song was a seminal event in the legend of Motown: What Becomes of the Broken-hearted? [His younger brother David was one of The Temptations].
And it is a teriffic segue to this bit [sorry about the hyperbole - it is warranted here, IMO]:
The unheralded back-up musicians for a staggering number of Motown hits called themselves The Funk Brothers. More than one of these astonishingly talented musicians are credited by a stunning list of big name - BIG name - performers as being a major influence.
Berry Gordy's factory cranked out song after song after song, and got any number of singers to perform - many incredibly talented, but still - part of the factory. And all the while, the Funk Brothers were there, driving the unmistakable Motown Sound.
If you have ever found yourself humming even one snippet of one Motown hit, or singing along with one on the Oldies station, or dancing in your seat when you are watching The Big Chill, or........well, you get the point...........you need to see the 2002 documentary Standing in the Shadow of Motown.
You will find youself almost wanting to stand up and cheer these guys. There is not a single wasted minute.
My favorite musical bit from that documentary: Joan Osborne fronting The Funk Brothers in a re-orchestrated version of the same song.
Rest in Peace, Mr. Ruffin. You were unsurpassed.

Mostly I listen to NPR while driving my truck... in Kay's car she has a local rock/hip hop station on.
My hearing has suffered over the years from some industrial stuff early on in my working life, so my enjoyment of music is not the same as it once was... and that's why I enjoy these videos so much.

This has got be the Best Rock trio ever, Canada's Group RUSH! :)
The Spirit Of Radio (From "Snakes and Arrows")
http://youtu.be/QuL_euRslTc (http://youtu.be/QuL_euRslTc)
Filmed in Rotterdam on their 2007 tour in support of the Snakes And Arrows album, this DVD captures Rush at their very best in front of a fervent Dutch audience. Rush are one of the most successful rock acts of all time with worldwide album sales estimated in excess of 40 million units and with a line-up unchanged since 1974. Snakes And Arrows was the bands first new album of original material for five years and was a both critically acclaimed and commercially successful going to No.3 in both the USA and Canada and to No.13 in the UK. The tour in support of the album traversed the globe and finally drew to a close in August 2008. Now this DVD provides a permanent reminder of the stunning stageshow that was Snakes And Arrows Live.
Begin the day with a friendly voice,
A companion unobtrusive
Plays that song that's so elusive
And the magic music makes your morning mood.
Off on your way, hit the open road,
There is magic at your fingers
For the Spirit ever lingers,
Undemanding contact in your happy solitude.
Invisible airwaves crackle with life
Bright antenna bristle with the energy
Emotional feedback on timeless wavelength
Bearing a gift beyond price, almost free
All this machinery making modern music
Can still be open-hearted.
Not so coldly charted, it's really just a question
Of your honesty, yeah, your honesty.
One likes to believe in the freedom of music,
But glittering prizes and endless compromises
Shatter the illusion of integrity.

[R.I.P.] Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister
CNN: (http://edition.cnn.com/2015/12/28/entertainment/lemmy-motrhead-death/)
Legendary Motörhead frontman and bassist Lemmy has died following a short battle with cancer, his bandmates have announced. He was 70.
Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister, who was also a member and sometime vocalist of the band Hawkwind in the 1970s, found that he was suffering from "an extremely aggressive" form of cancer on December 26 -- the day after Christmas. He died at home with his family.

It's kind of a long story here, but the gist of it is this... while in a 'second hand' shop I spotted a box full of CD's and one of them was the sound track from Driving Miss Daisy and on the sound track was this song by Eartha Kitt.
So, Ms Kitt happens to be one of my all time favorite singers, so here tis' Santa Baby!

50 years ago today (1/16/57). Little Richard recorded his iconic hit “Lucille.â€Released on Specialty Records in February 1957, the single reached number 1 on the Billboard R&B chart, 21 on the US pop chart. It was composed by Albert Collins and Little Richard and was one of the first rock songs to feature a lower register and also for its lyrical content.Pushing boundaries for the times, Richard has said the roots of the pining tale tied to a drag queen that used to hang around Macon, Georgia.

Lyrics:
(Parts I-V)
Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught on the crossfire of childhood and stardom,
blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter,
come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!
You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision,
rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions,
come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!
(Parts VI-IX)
Nobody knows where you are, how near or how far.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Pile on many more layers and I'll be joining you there.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
And we'll bask in the shadow of yesterday's triumph,
sail on the steel breeze.
Come on you boy child, you winner and loser,
come on you miner for truth and delusion, and shine.

Hey Les, my preferences are all over the place! laughing7
Early rock & roll, Jazz, R&B, Blues... the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Elvis, Elvis Costello, Prince, Louie Armstrong, George Jones, Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, most any Motown, Pink Floyd... oh, and, bso.org! :hah!:
To be serious for a moment... actually, the above list is only a part of what and who I like. Some of the more 'modern' stuff like hard rock is not to my taste, but even there I sometimes find a gem that's worth a listen. :)
-
Got to love Susan Boyle. :)
-
one more

Nice find Les.

Susan can really sing! My tastes are all over the place. I like what I like. :)

And... speaking of music and singers who made an impact, here's one of my all time favorites!
Here is the Buzfeed article Marking 25 Years (https://www.buzzfeed.com/pdominguez/whitney-houston-was-more-than-the-voice?utm_term=.inbZkeK3X#.aqQDwW6zX):
It’s been 25 years since Whitney Houston broke sales records with the soundtrack of the blockbuster melodrama The Bodyguard, best remembered for Houston’s cover of the iconic Dolly Parton breakup song “I Will Always Love You.†In 1992, the song shot to No. 1 for 14 weeks and helped the movie’s original soundtrack album become the best-selling in US history, with sales now totaling 17 million. The unusual a capella opening of the song — still a rarity for a radio single — explicitly foregrounded the intimacy of “The Voice,†and became indelibly associated with Houston and her image.
The heartbreak ballad remains the best-selling single by a woman in music history, and is still culturally resonant as the object of endless drag homages, talent show displays, and, this year, as a musical punchline in the movie The Hitman’s Bodyguard. The Bodyguard’s soundtrack was recently turned into a successful musical, which doubles as a celebration of Houston’s career. And Christina Aguilera’s emotional tribute to the film's music at the American Music Awards this past weekend was yet another reminder of the way the soundtrack is deeply interwoven into popular culture.
-
Yes! That is one of the most iconic songs of all time...as far as I'm concerned.
-

The story behind the song: Sultans Of Swing by Dire Straits
... this quote from Classic Rock. (https://www.loudersound.com/classic-rock)
Just after 6pm on July 13, 1985, Dire Straits took to the stage at Wembley Stadium as part of Live Aid, playing to a global TV audience that reached a mind-frying 1.9 billion. In their slot between U2 and Queen, they started with Money For Nothing (joined by Sting), and then came an epic version of the song that made them superstars: Sultans Of Swing.
...
Illsley recalls: “One day he said to me: ‘Remember that song I was fiddling about with the other day? I’ve completely redone the chord structure.’ He played it, and it sounded pretty good. The whole thing is incredibly simple, it’s the playing that makes it intriguing. It’s that rolling rhythm on the guitar and a very simple bass and drums approach. Then, of course, it’s a story. And let’s face it, all good songs have a story.â€

W.C. Handy (https://www.biography.com/musician/wc-handy)
William Christopher Handy was a composer and musician, and called himself the Father of the Blues.
W.C. Handy was born on November 16, 1873, in Florence, Alabama. He played with several bands and traveled throughout the Midwest and the South, learning about the African-American folk music that would become known as the blues. Handy later composed his own songs—including "St. Louis Blues," "Memphis Blues" and "Aunt Hagar's Blues"—which would help popularize the form and come to be major commercial hits. He died in New York City in 1958.

Yes, I do know that this video is about a car being made into a 'hotrod' but the background music caught my attention because the singer (Hank Williams III) kept saying, "I'm a wild f**k from Tennessee"! :hah!:
The lyrics are posted after the video.

Fanny was an American all-female band, active in the early 1970s. They were one of the first notable rock groups to be made up entirely of women, the third to sign with a major label (after Goldie & the Gingerbreads and the Pleasure Seekers), and the first to release an album on a major label (in 1970). They achieved two top 40 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 and released five albums.
Sisters June Millington (born April 14, 1948, Manila, Philippines) and Jean Millington (born May 25, 1949, Manila, Philippines) moved with their family from the Philippines to Sacramento, California in 1961. In high school they formed an all-girl band called the Svelts with June on guitar, Jean on bass, Addie Lee on guitar, and Brie Brandt on drums. Brandt was later replaced by Alice de Buhr (born September 4, 1949, Mason City, Iowa). When the Svelts disbanded, de Buhr and Lee formed another all-female group called Wild Honey. The Millington sisters later joined this band, which played Motown covers and eventually moved to Los Angeles.

The Message Of Pink Floyd’s ‘Animals’ Still Resonates 43 Years Later [Listen] (https://liveforlivemusic.com/news/pink-floyd-animals-43-years-later/)
Dave Melamed | Thursday, January 23rd, 2020
On January 23rd, 1977, Pink Floyd shocked the world with their politically charged new album, Animals. A musical take on George Orwell‘s novels like 1984 and Animal Farm, the release spoke to the corruption and social injustice that was prevalent in 1970’s Britain, with pigs, dogs, and sheep symbolizing the aristocracy, military, and working classes, respectively.
The album begins with the soft guitar work of “Pigs On The Wing (Part Oneâ€, a short and somber ballad about two apathetic souls lost in a dreary world of “boredom and pain,†fearful of their ruling class–the pigs on the wing. The next song paints a dramatic picture of the “Dogs,†gliding through some soaring guitar work from David Gilmour between vast, spacious segments composed by the album’s principal songwriter, Roger Waters. The lyrics are incendiary, with Gilmour and Waters both taking turns describing the daily outrages and reaction of the “Dogs.†Phrases like “Pick out the easy meat†and “You gotta strike when the moment is right, without thinking†show their immediate call to action. It’s all done in a tongue-in-cheek manner, telling them to “have a good drown.â€
As “Dogs†get dragged down by the stone, the listener is introduced to the “Pigs†themselves–three different ones to be precise. “Pigs (Three Different Ones)†has a similarly dreary tone, though it does touch on a more funky rhythm. The song is just as cheeky in Waters’ true sardonic style, calling the pigs a “charade†and even pointing criticism to British politician Mary Whitehouse by dropping her name directly in a lyric–and, perhaps incidentally, confusing American listeners into believing that the lyric was critiquing the White House itself.
Ultimately, the “Sheep†get their revenge in the album’s final lengthy piece. Unlike its predecessors, “Sheep†comes in with a more optimistic tone, leading to the sheep rebellion over their ruling classes. After invoking the Lord’s name to say things like, “He converteth me to lamb cutlets,†in an otherworldly echoing prayer, the sheep ultimately rise over their oppressors to conclude this classic album. The concept is summarized is the conclusion, “Pigs On The Wing (Part Two)â€, flipping the narrative voice to one of compassion and protection from the rulers.
As we find ourselves in the midst of political turmoil at the start of a new decade, with the oppressed literally taking to the streets in opposition to their leader, it’s hard to not find similarities between Pink Floyd’s message and today’s current events. Though Animals certainly depicts a darker reality, the parallels are almost overwhelming. Let’s hope we can ultimately work together to create a stronger future for everyone.

I've always loved this kind of music and this kind of singer.
A very beautiful Lady singing a lovely song with words and lyrics that can be understood.
Stephanie Mills all of 4'7" tall! They call her "The little girl with the big voice". LOL
-
This is the song from "The Wiz" movie she was in with Michal Jackson. But this is the official video.
-
This song should definitely have won all kinds of awards for choreography!
-
Here's another for Skhilled! :hah!:
-
JEEZ! Now that is true body control! Beautiful and amazing! Various body parts all moving to the beat!

JEEZ! Now that is true body control! Beautiful and amazing! Various body parts all moving to the beat!
Yeppers... she likely had to study and train for a long time to achieve that amount of body control.
-
Yes, was wondering how long it took her to get that control AND learn to do it to each and every little change in that particular music piece....That's the key part! ;)

My Children and my Sister were having a discussion about peanut butter and childhood over on FB and this video came up! :hah!:
When that came out I was eating PB&J everyday! I felt as though they made that song for me. One of my fav songs! LOL When I was little I'd go through a 5 lb. tub of PB per week! LOL Through my early 20's I was still eating it almost daily.
-
I still do eat peanut butter almost every day... at least 4-5 mornings and sometimes in the afternoon or evening, usually on an English Muffin or a bagel. Not quite as often for jelly, maybe 2-3 times a week. I also eat Nutella 2-3 times each week. laughing7

The Division Bell Tour was the final concert tour by Pink Floyd in 1994 to support their album The Division Bell, which was released two days before the tour’s start date. Though it was Pink Floyd’s final tour, members of the band have continued to perform the band's songs on solo tours.
In 1995 the band released the live album Pulse to commemorate the tour.
The Division Bell Tour in 1994 was promoted by Canadian concert impresario Michael Cohl and became the highest-grossing tour in rock music history to that date, with the band playing the entirety of The Dark Side of the Moon in some shows. The first show they played the whole The Dark Side of the Moon was on July 15th, 1994 at the Pontiac Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan, which was the first time since 1975 it was played. While preparing for the tour, Pink Floyd spent most of March rehearsing in a hangar at Norton Air Force Base in California.
The final concert of the tour on 29 October 1994 turned out to be the final full-length Pink Floyd performance, and the last time Pink Floyd played live before their one-off 18-minute reunion with Roger Waters at Live 8 on 2 July 2005. Their performance at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on July 18, 1994 would also go on to be the last ever Pink Floyd concert in North America. This would also be Nick Mason's last concert tour before commencing his Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets tour in 2018 - twenty-four years later.
-
Roger Waters is still doing shows. One is coming to Philly soon.
I still eat PB crackers and Nutter Butter cookies daily. LOL
-
Roger Waters is still doing shows. One is coming to Philly soon.
He's been talking about this tour for a while now, to me it's very often sad to see a band split up and the members going their own way.
-
True...
-
hhahaahahaha! yes, this is a bit OT. laughing7
-
LOL, certainly different for you.

LOL, certainly different for you.
I never got into the 'harder' versions of rock, although the occasional tune would be attractive to me, like this example with Steven Tyler and Aerosmith:
Of course, we could always do it with Run DMC!

Mary Chapin Carpenter - Songs From Home Episode 1: Live From My Kitchen
Songs From Home Episode 1: Live From My Kitchen
Mary Chapin Carpenter Performing “Edinburgh†(co-starring Angus)
"Joining the ranks of artists around the world trying to bring a little music and light into these uncertain days, I made a song video today with Angus’ help…we are calling this wee series
#songsfromhome and this is the first episode titled “Live From My Kitchen†…I’m singing “Edinburghâ€, a song I wrote a few years ago about one of my favorite places. I meet up with a ghost, we welcome New Year’s Eve in and I ponder why we wait until it’s too late to tell people how we feel about them. As for the production values, the gig wear are dirty yoga pants, muddy sneakers, glasses and a ball cap, there’s no vocal mic, and you can hear the co-producer chomping on a bone towards the end, and his time was way off. Clearly he won’t be hired as anyone’s percussionist anytime soon. Ahh, who cares? The point in doing this is simply to connect…we may not be able to shake hands, give hugs or find toilet paper in the stores, but we can be there for one another and remind ourselves that when this is over, love and kindness will be what gets us through the darkest times." - MCC

Brenda Lee - I'm Sorry
Brenda Lee was born Brenda Mae Tarpley on Dec. 11, 1944, in Atlanta. She was the second daughter of Rubin and Grace Tarpley. The youngster showed distinctive vocal talent at age 3, won her first singing contest when she was 5 and was performing regularly on an Atlanta radio station when she was 7. It was at about that time that a TV producer in Augusta, Ga., changed her name to Brenda Lee. In 1953, when she was 9, her father died in a construction accident.
Country singer Red Foley heard Lee when she was around 10 years old and subsequently invited her to appear with him on the popular TV show, Ozark Jubilee. Her popularity and high visibility soon won her guest shots on such popular network programs as The Ed Sullivan Show and The Perry Como Show.

30 Years Later: The Great Milli Vanilli Hoax (https://getpocket.com/explore/item/30-years-later-the-great-milli-vanilli-hoax?utm_source=pocket-newtab)
When the news broke, it became one of the biggest scandals in music history. But it wasn’t an isolated incident.
Mental Floss - Kenneth Partridge
(... follow the link for the full article.)
Pop music has always been part talent show, part magic trick. This has never been more apparent than it was on November 15, 1990, when German producer Frank Farian revealed in a press conference that then-superstars Rob Pilatus and Fab Morvan, members of the pop duo Milli Vanilli, hadn’t sung a note on Girl You Know It's True, their 1989 multi-platinum debut album.
Milli Vanilli truthers had long speculated that Rob and Fab, two guys with thick European accents and limited command of the English language, couldn’t possibly have crooned hits like “Girl You Know It’s True†and “Blame It On the Rain.†And yet the news came as a shock to many. Milli Vanilli instantly went from Top of the Pops to laughing stocks. Rob and Fab were stripped of the Grammys they had won for Best New Artist, and duped fans filed class-action lawsuits.

From Rhiannon: "This song came knocking about a week ago and I had to open the door and let it in. What can I say about what’s been happening, what has happened, and what is continuing to happen, in this country, in the world? There’s too many words and none, all at once. So I let the music speak, as usual. What a thing to mark this 155th anniversary of Juneteenth with that beautiful soul Yo-Yo Ma. Honored to have it out in the world."

Pink Floyd with New Singer & Guitarist David Gilmour (1968)
Pink Floyd Plays With Their Brand New Singer & Guitarist David Gilmour on French TV (1968)
In 1968, Pink Floyd’s relationship with increasingly drug-addled lead singer/songwriter/guitarist Syd Barrett unraveled. Though Barrett’s departure wasn’t officially announced until April, that band had already begun, by necessity, performing and recording without him late the previous year, adding guitarist David Gilmour to the lineup to supplant Syd’s erratic performances. In February of ’68 the band appeared minus Syd on a French live-music program called Baton Rouge. Sixties music blog A Dandy in Aspic describes the show as capturing during its year-long run “some of the best British Mod/Psych bands at their peak,†including The Small Faces, The Moody Blues, and the Yardbirds, with Jimmy Page.
This Floyd footage, however, is especially significant for its portrait of the band finding its way through the trauma of its chief architect’s mental demise, with a seemingly awkward Gilmour taking over: “It still sounds great, but the band are visibly uncomfortable. Roger Waters' dark psychedelic gem 'Set The Controls For the Heart Of The Sun' sounds amazing, and 'Let there Be [More] Light' is an indication of Pink Floyd's new, post-Syd direction.â€

Lil' Jimmy Reed ‘Big Boss Man' - The Blues Kitchen Presents...
Lil' Jimmy Reed plays 'Big Boss Man' exclusively in session for The Blues Kitchen.
Still playing and touring the World, Li’l Jimmy Reed is the last of the original Louisiana bluesmen.
At 80, Leon Atkins, better known as Lil’ Jimmy Reed, is the real deal, as will be attested to by anyone who has been privileged to hear his stinging guitar work, gritty vocals and haunting harmonica. A tall charismatic figure, Lil’ Jimmy epitomises the classic Louisiana down-home blues tradition. Born in the late nineteen-thirties in a shot-gun shack in Hardwood, LA, a small cotton and sawmill town on the Mississippi River, Leon grew up near a club where every night he absorbed the wail of the blues from across the street. At six he had his own guitar, made from a cigar box, and by the time he was a teenager he was proficient on both guitar and harmonica, playing local clubs around Baton Rouge. Filling-in one night for blues star Jimmy Reed earned him the sobriquet Lil’ Jimmy Reed and started him on the long path to success.

Flashback Friday!
This was written by an R&B singer named Richard Berry in 1955. With his group The Pharaohs, he was also the first to record the song; it got some airplay in some cities in the Western US when it was released in 1957. Various garage bands heard it and started covering the song until it became a phenomenon with the Kingsmen's 1963 version. While much of the song's notoriety comes from the indecipherable lyrics, in Berry's original version words are quite clear: The song is about a sailor who spends three days traveling to Jamaica to see his girl.

Pink Floyd Reunion - Time
David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Rick Wright and Nick Mason performing "Time".
Edited by João Solimeo from "David Gilmour Live in Gdansk" (2006), "Roger Waters live in Mexico" (2016) and "Pink Floyd Pulse" (1994). No copyright infringement intended, this is an editing exercise.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Let me tell you a story. I was at my editing bay one afternoon, three years ago, when I decided to create a Pink Floyd video performing one of my favorite songs, "Time". I wanted to bring together, even if by "video magic", the original members of my favorite band, so I downloaded videos of a performance by David Gilmour in Poland, another one by Roger Waters in Mexico and a third one, from "Pulse" (for images of Nick Mason). In a few hours the video was ready. It was just a tribute to Pink Floyd and an editing exercise. I uploaded it to YouTube, and explained in the DESCRIPTION that this was just a editing exercise. It was August 2017. So, three years later, the video has over 23 million views, something I could never have expected. For some reason, thousands of people were touched by the video in some way. But I was surprised by the amount of offensive comments I got; it was as if I had committed a "crime", as if my aim, from the beginning, was to deceive viewers. Even if I made it clear that the video was put together from different concerts, many viewers were offended. BUT there were also hundreds of positive comments, and millions of views. People who were touched by the music. And a lot of people who really believed that the video showed a "reunion" between Waters, Gilmour, Mason and Wright, even though it is obvious that they are at different concerts. Thank you so much to all of you who, like me, love Pink Floyd's music. This video took on a life of its own and I am always surprised by the amount of views and the reactions (positive and negative) that it entices.

Back in the 20th century one of my favorite singer/actors was Joe Seneca and about 7 Pm this evening while doing a little channel surfing I ran across an episode of Matlock that he was staring in, so I watched the whole hour! laughing7
... this first cut is Joe Seneca singing Talk To Me, a song he wrote that several singers and groups later covered. This second cut is by Little Willie John that became a big hit for LWJ, selling over one million copies.
The third cut is Seneca and Griffith doing some of the episode where they act and sing together... good stuff and I love it.

Amy Winehouse - Back To Black
Back to Black
Amy Winehouse
He left no time to regret
Kept his dick wet
With his same old safe bet
Me and my head high
And my tears dry
Get on without my guy
You went back to what you knew
So far removed
From all that we went through
And I tread a troubled track
My odds are stacked
I'll go back to black
We only said goodbye with words
I died a hundred times
You go back to her
And I go back to
I go back to us
I love you much
It's not enough
You love blow and I love puff
And life is like a pipe
And I'm a tiny penny
Rolling up the walls inside
We only said goodbye with words
I died a hundred times
You go back to her
And I go back to
We only said goodbye with words
I died a hundred times
You go back to her
And I go back to
Black, black
Black, black
Black, black
Black
I go back to
I go back to
We only said goodbye with words
I died a hundred times
You go back to her
And I go back to
We only said goodbye with words
I died a hundred times
You go back to her
And I go back to black

Big Mama Thornton Ball And Chain
Willie Mae “Big Mama†Thornton, a Southern Blues singer, was a pioneer of Rock and Roll. In 1953, her single “Hound Dog†was #1 on the charts for weeks, selling over two million copies!
But Thornton never received credit. Elvis even refused to perform with her! Years later, Thornton recorded “Ball and Chain,†which later became one of Janis Joplin’s signature songs. Thornton agreed to this, but didn’t receive royalties for a decade!

This evening we were watching Samuel L Jackson in 'Black Snake Moan' for the first time in several years and I was *re*-introduced to Son House who was an old hand at the Mississippi Delta blues style of singing and playing and I loved his work from the first time I heard him, maybe as early as 13-14 years old.
BTW... Jackson should have received an Oscar for that movie.

1955 - Chuck Berry does the duck walk for the first time. Berry performs the famous move, squatting on one leg while hopping across the stage, at the Paramount Theater in Brooklyn, New York. He was actually trying to hide the wrinkles in his suit. The crowd goes nuts, so Berry does it at the rest of the shows, where it wows the crowd every time. It became his signature move on stage. It's one of Berry's many contributions to rock and roll.
May 21, 1955 - Chuck Berry records "Maybellene," his version of "Ida Red." It would become one of the first records to be successful on rhythm & blues, country & western, and pop charts at the same time.

... just hanging out this AM, waiting for the NASCAR race to come on, but mostly trying to occupy my mind while waiting for my dose of Oxycodone to kick in. These past couple of months an old rotator cuff injury has been giving me fits with pain levels sometimes reaching the 8-9 points on the scale. Funny thing is, for 3-4 months before this shoulder thing I had been completely off the oxy... oh well, at least it works.
So while waiting for the oxy to work I decided to watch the first episode of the TV show "Reacher" again and at about the one minute mark Howlin Wolf starts to kick it with "Smokestack Lightning" and that brings my TV show watching to a screeching halt and sends me down a 'Rabbit Hole' chasing the Wolf! laughing7

Powerful song!!! I've heard her name before but can't remember if I've ever listened to her yet. I do think you posted another song of her's here tho...
-
Yepp... you have heard her name as I've posted her videos before.
I first became aware of her back in 2008 when she was a member of the Carolina Chocolate Drops (https://www.rhiannongiddens.com/carolina-chocolate-drops). My youngest son, Steven, was on staff as director for the University of Michigan's TV network and he produced and directed a video about the group for which he Won an Emmy
(https://www.ourfamilyforum.org/FamilyForum/index.php?topic=534.msg1078#msg1078) and you can see that video at the 'Emmy' link.
(the TV network was disbanded a couple of years later)
The group stopped preforming together some years ago and Rhiannon started her solo career and I've followed her over the years. One interesting tidbit is her habit of preforming in her bare feet, she's the only person that I've ever seen do that.
She has a rather busy touring schedule that you can see on This Page. (https://www.rhiannongiddens.com/tour)
... a video from back in the Chocolate Drops days.
