Building a Default Theme for the FamilyForum.
« on: May 17, 2010, 01:06:42 PM »
For some time now we've been playing around with various themes and some of them are really nice, but we always seem to feel the need to add to or alter them in some way, so I'm thinking... maybe it's time we built our very own theme.  :08:

We can keep all those nice themes by Bloc and DzinerStudio of course, but it would be nice to have one of our very own. I've been looking at sites that have used the SMF default to modify into their custom needs and you guys may remember that I had a thought along those lines when we first changed over to SMF2-RC3 and the Curve theme came out. I've run across a site that really caught my eye and got me to thinking about this again, you can find it HERE.

The changes are very minimal, just a new background and a couple of banners, but it looks great.  :bigthumb:
I've already contacted UncleBob and Steve K to see what they can come up with on some banner art and now need to come up with a background. The one the example site is using is nice, but it's mostly 'earth tones'... Kay is suggesting some lighter, pastel colors instead. I like the blues of the Curve theme, but they are a bit sharp, or dark for my taste, so a softer pastel blue might be good for the base color and then some contrasting lighter colors for bars and the other elements.

So... @Les, what do you think? Should we just find a suitable bg somewhere, or make a whole new one?

I was thinking maybe we could use Moms stream picture for a background, then try and match the colors with that, just a thought!

Mom's stream makes a good bg, but we need to find a way so that it's not 'stretched to fit' the way it was before. I'll look through my CD's to see if there's a larger size of it available.
