Don't know that this is worth a bother but the shout box throws an extra character(s) when the degree symbol is typed in using the 'ALT+0176' method.

EDIT: the symbols are showing in some other shouts as well, but only in the shout edits page and not in the shoutbox as displayed in the forums.

For degree use alt+248°

EDIT: Hmmm, does the same for that in shoutbox too...

IchBin™ is working on this issue currently, we should wait to see if he's able to come up with a fix.
