Got a new router last weekend but just got finished setting it all up. Now I can set up specific internet times for the kids and block certain sites...especially when they've been naughty or if I'm just pissed off at them. 

I've added my wireless printer to it and can print with my tablet or any other devices that I allow on the netwrok. It has guest access so if friends come over they can easily use the WiFi with my given password without running up their minutes, etc. Of course, I have it setup for MAC Address Authentication only. Having dual band 2.4 and 5GhZ allow me to put high bandwidth devices, like Lealer's Smart TV or the Playstation when Brandon's playing online games that she uses for streaming her amazon shows, on a different band so the other devices aren't slowed down.

Very nice Steve, it looks to be a good unit. Over the years I've used Linksys products a lot and have always had good results with them.

I've been using Verizon for about 20 years and they've always had their own routers...not very good ones. This one is much better even thought I should have gotten an even better one. But this will work nicely for now.

I'm reading up on VPN's...thinking about setting one up. Hmmm, but it seems that there are some disadvantages...

I got into that some years back. There are some very serious security advantages to a VPN system but care must be taken to get it right and it can be complicated to set up.
It's been a long time, so I took a quick Google and it seems to be better than when I was into it, IIRC.

They say there are still some disadvantages, especially when using  some large VPN services. Local VPN on a home network may not have a lot of those issues except for packet loss and slower service. So, slower service may be a deal breaker for me alone. But I'll do a bit more reading...
