FamilyForum Rebuild:
« on: September 30, 2006, 07:00:40 PM »
The photo gallery program that we are using here on the FamilyForum continues to give problems because of compatibility issues with some of the other modifications that we have installed, I think that the main conflict is between the gallery and the arcade.
I have worked on the issues for 3-4 weeks now trying to find a cure for these conflicts because the gallery that we have now has lots of nice features, but at this point I've enjoyed about as much of this aggravation as I care too.
In any case, whatever the underlying problem is it causes all kinds of errors to keep popping up and so a change must be made.

Over the next few days I will be making preparations to do a complete rebuild of the FamilyForum and all of its parts, like the gallery, arcade and all of the features that you see on the front page? ShoutBox, clock, game stats?ect. That means building the new forum from scratch in a new MySQL database so that it mirrors the current  ?live? forum, except that the new one will have different  photo gallery software.

When the new copy of the forum is ready to go the current live forum will need to go offline and the changeover made, so we will be down for  part of that day. It takes some time to make the transfer of all the user data from the old database to the new one.

I will send out an email to all members and post here when the date and time are set, so that you will know what the deal is if you try to get on the forum while its down.

Thanks? g-pa ken

The bare shell is up and running...
Now I just need to start adding all the 'stuff'!
The new gallery is working well at this point without screwing up anything else, so I'm hopeful that its going to work out OK.  :bigtmb:

You can take a look at it by clicking on the link below if you like, not much to look at just yet, but it should start to look more like our live forum over the next few days.
