Cookbook issue
« on: April 12, 2009, 01:47:26 AM »
Is there a way to see or be notified when someone posts a new recipe? I mean sort of like a recent posts?

No... this cookbook program is lacking in some features including that one.

What NBDesign wants you to do is buy the latest version (v5.0) so they don't have lots of the features available in the older free versions, like the one we are using. That's understandable of course.

It their email response to one of my questions they stated that there would be no support of any kind, so the only option would be to use it as is or pay $75.00 for the newer version. I can't afford that price of course.

Here's the list of stuff for the latest:
Quote
    *  Show or hide category images and descriptions on the category page with a click of a button
    * Detailed chef information with chef photo image upload
    * 100% editable top navigation dropdown menu
    * Passwords are emailed to potential member when registering.
    * REAL Person verification for registration
    * Set program to automatically or manually approve new members
    * Set program to automatically or manually approve new recipes
    * Mass deletion for members that are waiting approval
    * Mass deletion of recipes based on category, chef, occasion, and more
    * Meet the Chef ? your cookbooks chef listing
    * Easy design change.  By editing the header and footer html files and a couple of style sheets and you?re done!
    * Email recipe to a friend
    * Personal recipe box for your favorite recipes and your posted recipes
    * Recipe print out for your home cookbook or recipe box
    * Print a list of ingredients to take shopping with you
    * Chef contact  - Chef?s can allow or deny contact from other cookbook chef?s
    * Google Friendly!  This software works GREAT with Google AdSense?
    * Cookbook News
    * Cooking Terms
    * Equivalents List
    * Cookbook Information pages with Auto menu link generation
    * Full administration back end with some forms using a RTE (Rich Text Editor) for information formatting and eye appeal.
    * Recipe image upload.  A default image will be used if there is no image uploaded for the recipe.
    * Easy update drop down menu

Has I have said before this software will only work on a windows server, and I think most of us are on linux servers, and I wouldn't want to move servers just to get the pro version jmho

Yeah... I agree with the not moving thing Les.
Even with the missing stuff it's still good though and I like it. It will take some extra care on the admin part because anyone can post a recipe to it, so a close check every day is in order, but I would be doing that anyway so it's not so bad.

Maybe at some point we may discover a better free program, but for now this is the best one.  :bigthumb:

That looks similar to one of the recipe software I saw yesterday at sourceforge. Les, if there is a config file check it to see if the user name and pass are stored in it.

Also, you need to look at the dates of those programs. If they aren't from the last 2 years then they probably will not be kept up to date.
