The ancient ingenuity of water harvesting
« on: December 04, 2009, 05:16:44 AM »
Found this while doing a little research for the FF website.
All too often we complain about the weather conditions that we are presented with each day. Here in Tobaccoville some of us have been known to voice some negativity because of all the rain we've received in the past few weeks, but it's been only a few months since the time when we were worried about the drought conditions that the region was suffering under.

When this video came to my attention the first thing that came to mind was how insightful and ingenious these folk have been for all these hundreds of years and how shortsighted and wasteful we are when it comes to the environment and preserving our resources.
And... how much we whine about the weather.  :08:

Talks Anupam Mishra: The ancient ingenuity of water harvesting.

About this talk
With wisdom and wit, Anupam Mishra talks about the amazing feats of engineering built centuries ago by the people of India's Golden Desert to harvest water. These structures are still used today -- and are often superior to modern water megaprojects.

About Anupam Mishra
To promote smart water management, Anupam Mishra works to preserve rural India?s traditional rainwater harvesting techniques.

Cool! There are many things that would probably work better that were made years ago but the drive for making more money has taken them away.
