Steve, you have lots of good stuff in your .htaccess file and I do not want to take a chance on screwing anything up! So I'll leave it to you to add the 404 error call in the file.  :hah!:

You can just add it at the end of it...or the beginning if you have to. Trust me...R1Soft is amazing! Check it out! ;)

No matter how hard you can try to screw things up, just a couple of click will restore it up to 7 days ago. It used to be at least a few months and the hosting can set it up as they wish.

I'm not liking the 404 page so far... not using a TP Article means that the top navigation bar (or facsimile) must be manually.

You can install TP if you need it...or whatever you want.

If you use a .htaccess in the main folder or a particular forum's folder it should work. I.E., putting it in http://docskillz.com/test404

Getting into the setup now.

How do you want to make the error page? With a TP article, or just a stand alone html page, or what?

Hmmm, just noticed this and missed it earlier... Do it the same as here, a TP article right?

The way your server and mine are setup is a little different, but my understanding of the .htaccess file location that we need to use is this; while there are several of the .htaccess files scattered throughout SMF the one for us to use is in the root(?) folder as seen in the two screen shots attached.

I'll go ahead and install the latest public release of TP and make the article this morning.

As far as I know, you should use the .htaccess file that is in the root folder of the forum you wish to use it on. That is, unless you wish to make it global (for site you have) then it should go in the /public_html folder. Sorry, I was very busy yesterday.
