Calliope - We have a new Default Theme.
« on: July 12, 2010, 11:10:53 AM »
BlocWeb has once again designed a wonderful theme and we've made it our new default theme here on Our FamilyForum!  :2thumbs:

We are still tweaking some of the smaller images and features, but it should only take a few days to get everything brought up to date.
And again we must give a shout-out to Les for his efforts on images and gralpics... his work on these themes always makes for a better looking FamilyForum.
Thanks Les.  riteon

As always, if you have another theme that you prefer just go to the Theme block and make your selection permanent.
Enjoy... GPa

We've also added the new Pandora theme to our Themes block. We've just started to do the edits of images and gralpics but you can go ahead and make it your permanent theme if you like.

Just found out Bloc's reasoning for naming this theme 'Calliope'.  :bigteeth:

This article is about the muse. For the musical instrument, see Calliope (music). For other uses, see Calliope (disambiguation).
Detail of painting The Muses Urania and Calliope by Simon Vouet, in which she is holding a copy of the Odyssey

In Greek mythology, Calliope (Greek: Καλλιόπη Kalliope "beautiful-voiced", English pronunciation: /kəˈlaɪ.əpiː/ kə-LYE-ə-pee) was the muse of heroic poetry,[1] daughter of Zeus and Mnemosyne, and is now best known as Homer's muse, the inspiration for the Iliad and the Odyssey.

One account says Calliope was the lover of the war god Ares, and bore him several sons: Mygdon, Edonus, Biston, and Odomantus - respectively the founders of Thracian tribes known as the Mygdones, Edones, Bistones and Odomantes.

Calliope also had two famous sons, Orpheus[2] and Linus[3], by either Apollo or the king Oeagrus of Thrace. She taught Orpheus verses for singing[4] . She was the wisest of the Muses, as well as the most assertive. She married Oeagrus close to Pimpleia[5], Olympus.

Calliope is always seen with a writing tablet in her hand. At times, she is depicted as carrying a roll of paper or a book or as wearing a gold crown.

In the God of War series of video games based on Greek mythology, Calliope is the name of the daughter of the protagonists Kratos. However, this Calliope has no connection to the muse Calliope.

Ah! I thought that name was familiar! I used to read Greek Myth a LOT when I was a teen. I loved it. :)
