I planned on trying the gmail phone app. That's the one that also does video chat?

Yepp... earlier and on a weekend would work a lot better. 

And, we'll need to open a topic for the chat several days in advance so that anyone who is interested will have a chance to be ready for the chat.

I don't currently have it but have tried it when it first came out for awhile some years ago. I do plan on getting it again. I was just looking at a new Logitec video cam yesterday. Am going to research them first to see which one is right for me first. Might buy one later today.

I've been so busy all week that I haven't had a chance to check it out yet. I'll still download it as well as skype. A few other people I know have said that they were using it so I'll have to give it a go.

Have not tried the video chat thingie with Gmail, but did try the PC to phone part and it works nicely, so if you wanted to use it for the free calls it should work well. Gmail has some really nice features, but my thinking so far is that my choice will be to stay with Skype.

I don't have the same email that I used when I first registered. That was some years ago when Skype was totally free. So, I had to create a new one because I was trying to help someone fix their site yesterday after a bad hacking and didn't have the time to wait for support to change my email for me.

I finally got skype to work. Had issues (I guess) cause I had other programs running at the same time. It would just close on me without saying why. It was working for me before but I believe that I had no other programs running at that time. I think when running games (or certain games/memory intensive programs) it will not boot properly.
