My interest in the true roots of Rock and Roll have lead me to many interesting people and often you can see a very clear influence on the musicians and bands of the 50's, 60's and seventies and beyond.
The influence that generally comes to mind is one of the 'white' performers like Elvis, the Stones, Beetles and others, but we should not forget the stars like James Brown, Chuck Berry, Little Richard and many others who also felt the guiding hand of singers and musicians from as far back as the early 1900's or even earlier.
I think the one thing that is most important in making the 40's and 50's such a hotbed for the advent of 'Rock and Roll' was the development of our communication technologies like radio, TV and most important of all, the records that people were able to produce and make available to the public. It all just seemed to come together in the early to mid 50's and those of us who were lucky enough to be there when it was happening are still amazed at what an exciting time it was for the music that we were exposed to during those years.
Here's a lady that I re-discovered today and if you watch this series of videos on her life and musical journey you'll see an direct link to many of the singers and bands that have been around for the past 50-60 years.
Enjoy!
