Free Screencast/Screen Recording Software
« on: December 22, 2018, 07:46:43 PM »
I've been playing around quite a bit over the last several months (maybe 6 months or so) with this type of software and here's what I've found, in no particular order:

1.  OBS Studio - https://obsproject.com/

Very good software for screen recording and live streaming. The help articles are good and there's tons of youtube videos to help you do a variety of things with it. You can also upload directly to youtube, etc. The only downside of this one for me is the lack of video editing tools in it. You'll probably want to find a good video editor to go along with it.

2.  Filmora Scrn - https://filmora.wondershare.com/screen-recorder/

Tons of great features and a great video editing features! Probably one the best out there, imo, including against the paid ones. The only problem with the free version is that it leaves a watermark on your videos although it is pretty small. However, the paid version is really cheap. I like Filmora so much I paid for the lifetime license for the Filmora9 version. It has a full suite of editing, recording, and live streaming tools. Their website also has great help videos and there's a ton more on youtube.

3.  Shotcut - https://shotcut.org/

It doesn't record but is a great video editor with a ton of features and you can save the videos in a ton of formats. Lots of good video tutorials on their site and a ton more on youtube.

Thanks.  Think I've tried most of them, except those you mentioned. lol..

I've been using ispring-free-cam 8 for most of my stuff so far. https://www.ispringsolutions.com/ispring-free-cam Really easy to use, but limited when t comes to editing.  Need something which I can neatly add annotations as not comfortable talking through the mike.

Some Examples, (don't fall asleep).  :D

Jeez! The paid versions are really expensive!!! Filmora has a lot of good text/annotations, fades, transitions, etc. built-in plus you can create your own and add them along with arrows, etc. but if you still wish to use yours then use Shotcut for editing the videos after you create them in iSpring.

As far as the vids go, you really need to slow things down. People who are new to TP or even SMF or computers will not be able to keep up. Then there are those who just can't read fast or need to take thing in slowly before they get it. I'm very familiar with what you were doing and it was going too fast for me. Then if you add text they will need time to read the text and relate it to what the text is referring to and that will be added during editing.

TBH, I had planned on making some vids for TP eventually once things have settled down with the hosting and was gonna tell you about it then. I may have more time coming up soon. ;)
